When it comes to choosing our home insurance, questions start to arise. For example: Does home insurance cover theft? Does home insurance cover bike theft? And what about the car? Burglary, Robbery and Theft What is the difference?
When we talk about insurance, it is normal for technical terms to come up that we are not familiar with, or that we do not use that often. Understanding the specific vocabulary related to insurance is crucial in order to be able to compare and make a good decision. For instance, we are talking about losing our belonging at the hands of some people we don't know, but is that a burglary or a theft? What exactly are we talking about?
Burglary: This can be defined as the situation in which our personal belongings are taken using violent methods on our property to gain access to them. In other words, our home will suffer material damage, such as broken glass, forced locks, holes in the walls, etc.
Robbery: In this case, violence is used against people. The thieves will take our personal belongings by means of intimidation and violence. Threats, physical and verbal violence, etc. Undoubtedly, the most unpleasant experience we could have.
Theft: This type of theft is characterised by the absence of violence. Unfortunately, it can be one of the most frequent situations, and the thief leaves almost no trace. Our things simply disappear.
If we can distinguish these concepts, we will be able to observe and compare insurance policies to know which one suits us according to our circumstances and needs. In case you already have an active policy, you will be able to read it with different perspective and verify if you are protected or not.
Caser home insurance: what options do I have?
At this point, it will be important to assess which of the home insurances offered by Caser is best suited to you. There are three options, and the good news is that, in principle, all three cover theft, but in different ways.
Depending on the level of cover, the following options are available, ranging from the most basic to the most comprehensive: Hogar Esencial, Hogar Integral and Hogar Prestigio. Depending on the plan you choose, the theft or burglary of your belongings will be covered more or less extensively.
I guess you're probably wondering now: Does home insurance cover car theft? The truth is that car theft will not be covered by home insurance, but it will be covered by your car insurance. However, other belongings you may have in your garage, such as a bicycle, tools, or even a safe deposit box, will be covered. In the latter case, up to €600 of the contents of the box will be covered.
If you choose the intermediate option, the Hogar Integral insurance, all the objects that are insured and are located inside the dwelling will be covered against theft at 100%.
However, as we have said before, it is important that you can carefully analyse the differences between these three options, so I suggest you visit this link to see all the details and the exceptions to the coverage in the home plan
Home insurance and burglary outside your home
So far we have discussed the differences between different types of burglary and the different plans that Caser has available to insure your home. But what happens if I am burgled while away from home? You wouldn't be the first or the last to lose your jacket or mobile phone to a thief. What's more, this could happen to you in your own town, or more likely, while you're travelling. So: does homeowners insurance cover theft away from home? The answer is yes, you'll find out soon enough.
If you were a victim of mugging outside your home, you would also be protected, both in Spain and in the rest of the countries of the European Union. This cover is particularly important when you go on holiday and become just another tourist touring Europe's major cities. Of course, it is always necessary to report the incident to the relevant police authorities. In this way, the insurance will cover you for up to €1500 in personal belongings (backpack, accessories, mobile phone, etc.) and up to €300 or €600 in cash, depending on the option chosen.
It is true that being robbed in the street is usually more of a nuisance than a material loss. Even so, the fraudulent use of our credit cards is often the logical consequence of these thefts and brings with it major headaches. If you were covered by Hogar Prestigio insurance (the most complete option), you would be covered up to €1500 for this type of fraud.
